Our learning approach to math emphasizes the multi-step process involved in solving mathematical problems. Our standards-based curriculum focuses on the multiple learning styles of our students by engaging them in visual strategies, interactive activities, math games, and more.

For elementary school math, teachers draw from a range of programs including GoMathFinish Line and Spatial Temporal (ST) Math.

ST Math

ST Math is an instructional program that boosts math comprehension and proficiency through visual learning. Created by MIND Research Institute, Spatial-Temporal (ST) Math is a game-based instructional software for math instruction that builds a deep conceptual understanding of math through rigorous learning and creative problem-solving to engage, motivate, and challenge students.

The ST Math software games use interactive, graphically-rich animations that visually represent mathematical concepts to improve conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills.

Integrating with classroom instruction, ST Math incorporates the latest research in learning and the brain and promotes mastery-based learning and mathematical understanding. Students at PS 84 access the program on iPads and computers, in the classroom as well as the Technology room.

Algebra for all

We are among the first schools to introduce the Algebra For All program in grades 5-8. All students in this program will complete algebra no later than 9th grade, enabling them to access more advanced math courses in high school and better preparing them for college and careers. This program allows for the students to be on track  to take the AP Math exam in high school.
