School Day Guidelines

School Hours

Monday - Friday: 8:20 AM* - 2:40 PM

Half Days:  Students are dismissed at 11:30 AM

*Teachers pick up Grades 1-5 students from the cafeteria/auditorium at 8:20 am sharp. Instruction begins at 8:20am sharp. Students entering the building After 8:20 am are late and must sign the late book.  

Blue Emergency Cards

All students must have a current emergency card on file.  Blue cards will be distributed to students on the first day of school.  Please make every effort to fill out the card and return it to the school as soon as possible.  Please inform the school of any changes to the blue card that may take place during the school year


The cafeteria is open for breakfast at 7:30am. Parents may drop off their child at the cafeteria for breakfast. Parents are not permitted to enter the cafeteria. Students should use the cafeteria entrance if arriving to school before 8:20am.

Pre-K and Kindergarten

Students must enter through the small playground that can be accessed through the breezeway in the middle of Grand street or South 1st street. Dismissal will be in the same location.

Grades 1-5

Students must enter through the cafeteria doors located through the breezeway, closer to the middle of south 1st street.

Dismissal locations
Grades 1-3: large playground
Grade 4: corner of Berry St. and Grand St.
Grade 5: main entrance

Upper grades

Students must enter through the doors located on Grand Street. Dismissal will be in the same location.

Please contact the main office at 718-384-8063 in the event that someone who is not on the blue emergency card will be picking up your child. Please make sure the pickup person has identification.


Official attendance is taken daily by your child’s teacher. Please make every effort to have your child in school on time. Class begins at 8:20am and students will be considered late if they arrive after that time. A good attendance record is extremely important. If your child is absent from school, please send a note or doctor’s note when your child returns to school. 

After School/Early/Late Pick-Up

Please notify your child’s teacher, in writing if your child will be attending our on-site after school program (Grand Street) or any off site programs that pick-up at PS 84.

If you need to pick up your child early, you must sign your child out at the main office and obtain an early pick-up pass. The pass must be given to the school safety agent. Unless there is an emergency, students may not be picked up from school after 2:15pm, as this interrupts instruction. 

Dismissal is at 2:40 pm and 11:30 am on half days. Please make every effort to pick up your child on time.  In the event that you are running late, please notify the school. All Students Picked Up After 2:40 Pm Will Be Taken To The Small Gym. Please Make Sure To Bring Identification With You.

Visitor Protocol /Classroom Celebrations

When visiting the school for any reason including volunteering, present your identification to the school safety agent, sign in, then stop at the main office (room 129) to obtain a color designated floor pass. Please return the hall pass to the main office at the end of your visit.  

To Ensure The Safety Of All, No Visitor Will Be Allowed To Enter The Premises Without Identification.

When celebrating birthdays, please contact your child’s teacher to make arrangements. Birthday celebrations may take place after 1:30 and can only last 20 to 30 minutes. Snacks may be permitted; however, it is important to consult your child’s teacher to determine any allergies in the classroom. Large sheet cakes, candy bags and favors are not permitted. Please make every effort to share healthy items. Siblings from other classrooms may not attend celebrations as this interferes with their instructional time. The number of adults visiting the classroom for celebrations is limited to two.
