Musical Theater
Every year our dynamic team of Music and Art Teachers work with students in grades 5-8 to produce a full length musical theater production of a notable Broadway show! Students are involved in every facet of our productions. both on stage and behind the scenes. From acting and singing to set and costume design and fabrication to lights and sound, there is a role for every student who would like to be involved! Our teachers support interested students through auditions to set and costume concepts all the way though to an amazing theatrical extravaganza that highlights all the strengths, talents, humor, and flair within our students. Running October through March, this program takes place after school and is open to all students in grades 5-8.
Shrek Jr
Beauty was in the eye of the ogre in PS 84’s production of Shrek The Musical JR. Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek. One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he's handed a task — if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn't be complete without a few twists and turns along the way.
Willy Wonka Jr
In 2024, PS 84’s school musical was Willy Wonka Jr! We followed enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats, but the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka's rules in the factory — or suffer the consequences.

The Music Man Jr
Throughout the 2023-24 school year our dedicated music and art teachers worked with students to mount a stellar production of Music Man Jr! In this story, master showman Harold Hill is in town and he’s got “seventy-six trombones” in tow. Can upright, uptight Marian, the town librarian, resist his powerful allure? The story follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band he vows to organize. The catch? He doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, whose belief in Harold’s power just might help him succeed in the end in spite of himself.
