The PTA of PS 84 is an organization of families and teachers working together to support the vision of the school through fundraising and the implementation of programs and initiatives.
Activities are planned to foster a sense of community and to ensure that our children and teachers have the resources they need to succeed and enjoy learning.
General PTA meetings
Held usually the third Wednesday of every month at 6pm in the auditorium. The meetings usually last between 1 and 1.5 hours. Childcare is provided, as well as pizza for the children.
Executive board meetings
Held the first Wednesday of every month at 8am in the PTA room. These meetings are open to all parents, please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to attend.
Held throughout the year and will be posted on the online calendar, newsletter, and Facebook. Everyone is welcome.

Elections for Executive Board roles for the following school year happen in late May.
The process is managed and overseen by a small parent-led Nominating Committee.

Executive Board Roles
The President acts as executive officer and conducts official business such as presiding over general meetings. Other responsibilities include:
Organize and conducte monthly board meetings and general meetings, providing a report at each general meeting
Meet with the Principal on a monthly basis
Oversee the functions of fellow board members and committees
Help to oversee annual events and activities, including assisting in finding event chairs and development of the PTA budget in coordination with Treasurer and school administration
Represent the PTA at monthly School Leadership Team meetings
Represent the PTA at monthly meetings for the District 14 PTA Presidents’ Council
Set the school-year calendar of PTA events
The Vice President assists the President in their various duties and presides over meetings in their absence. The VP is also entrusted with:
Ensuring that special Committees have leadership at the start of the year and hold regular meetings throughout the year
Recruiting volunteers for general involvement throughout the year, as well as specific involvement for specific events
The Recording Secretary is responsible for all non-financial PTA records. Other responsibilities include:
Record and prepare minutes at all PTA meetings
Prepare notices, agendas, sign-in sheets and materials for distribution
Maintain custody of the PTA’s records on school premises
Assist with the June transfer of records to the incoming Executive Board
The Corresponding Secretary is responsible for the following:
Coordinate with school administration to facilitate communications and distribute notices
Respond to incoming correspondence from PTA membership
Manage the PTA calendar and database
Edit weekly newsletter and update Facebook/Instagram pages
Work closely with PTA President, closely monitor PTA budget throughout the school year
Prepare written Treasurer’s report for every executive board and general membership meeting
Prepare and submit Interim PTA Financial Report to the Principal by January 31 of each school year
Prepare and submit Annual PTA Financial Report to the Principal by June 30 of each school year
Middle School Representative
The Middle School Rep ensures that the PTA executive board includes representation for families with children in the middle school. The rep acts as liaison to the middle school community and encourages parent participation. Other responsibilities:
Raise middle school issues/needs to the Executive Board for discussion/support
Work with event Chairs to identify volunteer needs
*Must be already enrolled or zoned for PS 84
The Kindergarten Rep acts as a welcoming committee to parents who are new to PS 84 or public school. The rep acts as liaison to the kindergarten community and encourages parent participation. Other responsibilities:
Raise kindergarten/elementary school issues/needs to the Executive Board for discussion/support
Work with event chairs to identify volunteer needs
